Side plates are Hard rubber as a Vom Hofe The spool is alum. I have taken apart And cleaned many of the great reels made in the last 150 years This reel is as well engeered and built As any Better than a lot of them. But Who Made It The only marking are inside as photo shows dated 1999 If you know please let me know
