8’ 4 “ # 4 line 3 piece 3 tips bag & tube. Jim built this rod in 1999. for his friend Dr. Jerry Stein and co auther of the book Dickerson the man his rods. I first met Jim about 1980. at a rod show in Mass. We both had tables. selling our rod s. Jim came from Calif. And I from Mich. We spent a lot of time talking shop. I could tell Jim was a real craftman We talked about the difference. between Calcutta. cane from. India. And. Tonkin cane from China. I never found the time to try Calcutta cane but Jim did. Here s a fine example. His workmanship is excllent Their are 3 tips One tip is Tonkin cane from china. I have lawn cast the rod and like it with both Wf. & Dt. 4 Wt. lines Jim made the handle useing ¼ “ cork rings as were used back about 1900. when Calcutta. was the cane. About 1975 while. visting Lyle Dickerson shop which was 40 miles from me. He showed me his supply of Calcutta cane which he aquired in the early 1930 s. I think there were about 25 8’ culms He made a few rods from this cane but it was to hard to get it from India It was much easer to deal with the Demmerst. Family. in New York Who were set up to import from China. When Lyle sold his shop to Tim Bedford in Calif. This cane went with it When Tim died Jim Schaff aquired the Dickerson. shop. And what was left of the Calcutta & Tonkin cane
